Beijing Daxing airport is now open
The Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) opened on 30 September 2019.
The airport, located 46km from Tiananmen Square, will have four runways, 79 airport stands and a terminal building covering an area of 700 000 sqm, with an additional three runways to be added at a later stage.
Chinese carriers such as China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Air China will launch various new routes from the airport. British Airways is scheduled to move its operations to the Daxing from October 27.
Transport options from the airport include the Beijing-Xiong’an intercity railway, which connects the airport to Beijing city centre in 20 minutes and costs 24 RMB (R50), and the new Daxing airport subway line, which will take passengers to Beijing in 19 minutes at a cost of 35 RMB (R73).
The Chinese government paid over $17bn (R256bn) for the airport.
The airport will feature 5G Internet.
